A Commitment to Security
We are all responsible in some way for the safety and security of our personal information, and this is how we handle our responsibility. Below are some tips you can use to heighten the security of your personal information.

~~ Security Safeguards to Keep Information Confidential and Secure
Here are some of the things we do with our technology and our internal training to ensure that your information in our systems is protected:

  • The security of our customers’ information is a priority to us, and the A Way With Words Foundation, Inc. strives to be compliant with industry standards and best practices.
  • We carefully select and monitor the outside companies that we hire to perform services for us. We require them to keep customer information safe and secure, and do not allow them to use or share the information for any purpose other than the job they are hired to do.
  • We use security software to avoid, when possible, the unintended transmission of computer viruses or malevolent computer programs.
  • Our order and payment processors use 236-bit encryption for sensitive information that is transmitted over the Internet, firewall systems and intrusion detection software to prohibit unauthorized access.
  • Our payment processor is fully PCI/CISP compliant (meets or exceeds Visa's Cardholder Information Security Program and MasterCard's Site Data Protection Program minimum security mandates).

  • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology is used to encrypt and protect your credit-card account information, and transactions are carried out on a secure server (please be sure that your own Web browser, such as Netscape or Explorer, is able to handle secure transactions).

  • We require our volunteers and associates to be aware of information security in all their tasks performed for the A Way With Words Foundation, Inc.

~~ Your Part
As a consumer, you can take a number of steps to protect your information. Here are a few tips:

  • Be extremely cautious in sharing your personal information with others. Never give your Social Security number or personal credit information over the phone or the Internet unless you initiate the communication.

  • Don’t share your online account information (user names, passwords) with anyone.

  • Don’t put sensitive information such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, etc. in emails. They are not secure.
  • Don’t respond to suspicious emails, especially if they request personal information or ask you to validate account information.
  • Report unusual telephone or email inquiries or other suspicious activity to your telephone company or local law enforcement authorities.
  • Immediately sign new credit cards.
  • Retain receipts from all ATM, debit and credit card transactions. When you're ready to dispose of them, make sure your account number is not readable. Shred documents with any personally identifiable information, including pre-approved offer letters, ATM receipts etc.
  • Monitor account activity on your credit reports to ensure that the information is accurate and that all the reported activities are yours. If you believe that an unauthorized person has accessed your account, notify your credit card company or local bank immediately.
  • Check your billing statements. Review your statements thoroughly. Contact all your creditors immediately if you notice incorrect transactions.
  • If you lose your credit card or suspect that you have been a victim of identity theft, immediately notify your creditors, local law enforcement and the credit bureau agencies listed above. If you think your identity has been stolen, you may want to visit http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/ which is sponsored by the Federal Trade Commission.
  • Maintain and regularly update anti-virus and anti-spyware programs on your computer.
  • When you have been paying a bill online, or performing any other transaction online, make sure that you use the Log Out button when you are finished. Then close your browser completely. This ensures that no one can use the computer after you and see your account information.

~~ Your Opt-Out Choices
You have the right to limit when we may share information about you. You may also tell us when not to send you solicitations.
